It started with a dumpster…
Picture this; I was in my vibrant and daring early 20’s, braving the freezing cold Duluth, Minnesota December tempatures, dumpster diving for leather scraps. After collecting all of my precious discarded cargo, I painstakingly pieced together each leather piece to create my initial collection of bags.
Years later, as I delved deeper into the art of leatherworking, I took it upon myself to learn the intricate craft of tooling, focusing initially on traditional floral designs. However, it became evident that this was not where my true passion lay. I had to venture further, experimenting with various styles and themes before finding my creative niche.
After much exploration and a new home in New Orleans, I found my confidence in translating my designs into colorful florals, circus themes, and vintage styles. These themes became the cornerstone of my creations, setting the foundation for the distinct and vibrant aesthetic that defines Hideaway Leathercraft today. Through perseverance and self-discovery, and a lot of awesomeness, I have transformed humble beginnings into a thriving business that celebrates the artistry of leather in unique and unconventional ways.
